The Director-General of the national youth service corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi on Thursday held a farewell meeting with members of staff of the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters ahead of the formal handover to his successor Brigadier General SZ Kazaure.
While speaking, Olawumi enumerated the various achievements of the Scheme under his watch, among them the commencement of the online registration, security and general welfare of Corps members and staff, capacity building courses for staff and the introduction of Preparatory Course for State Coordinators.
Also on his achievement list are the procurement and distribution of ambulances and other operational vehicles to NYSC State Secretariats, the establishment of NYSC Bakery and Table Water Factory, resuscitation of the NYSC football team, the introduction of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, and the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative among others.
He stressed that all the achievements were made possible through the loyalty and support of staff. “It is not my success; it is yours,” he said.
In a rare display of humility, Olawumi also listed some areas in which he felt the Scheme could have done better but for some constraints. He expressed the hope that emphasis would be placed on those areas as part of agenda-setting for the in-coming Director-General.
Bellow are farewell messages to Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi.
